Another important event of the commonwealth games 2022 is the Rugby Sevens. The 2022 Commonwealth Games Rugby Sevens will be played at the Coventry Stadium, 29-31 July 2022. The tournaments were originally planned to be held at Villa Park [3], but they will now take place at Coventry Stadium. Since its 1998 debut in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), rugby sevens has been played at every Commonwealth Games. For 2002 and 2006, rugby sevens was only an optional sport.
The Commonwealth Games Federation made it a ‘Core” sport, requiring its presence at every Commonwealth Games from 2010 onwards. From its inception, New Zealand was the dominant nation in the men’s tournament. They lost the gold medal match to South Africa in 2014 and were defeated by South Africa the next year. Sixteen countries qualify for the men’s tournament at 2022 Commonwealth Games. Eight countries qualify for the women’s tournament at 2022 Commonwealth Games. Below is the complete schedule, as well as the list of teams that qualified for the Rugby sevens tournament at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
