The Women’s Cricket Tournament at the 2022 Commonwealth Games will start from 29th July to 7th August 2022. The 2022 Commonwealth Games will host a women’s tournament in Birmingham. It will take place between July and August 2022. This will be the first time cricket has been included in the Commonwealth Games since the 1998 Commonwealth Games, Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), which saw a List A men’s tournament. The matches will be played in Twenty20 format, and there will be no women’s tournament.
The International Cricket Council announced in April 2021 that all matches at the tournament would be Twenty20 International. June 2021 was the date of the tournament’s confirmation. The qualification process for the Cricket at the 2022 Commonwealth Games was announced by the ICC in November 2020. England is automatically qualified as the host, with six top-ranked sides as direct qualifiers. The winners of the Commonwealth Games Qualifier tournament will receive an additional place.
The ICC Women’s T20I rankings will determine the allocation of six direct qualifiers. This is dependent on at least four of the six Commonwealth Games Federation region (Africa, Americas and Asia, Europe, Caribbean, Europe, and Oceania). Teams ranked from 8th to 10th in the rankings will be first considered if they do not meet the criteria. Each team may enter up to 15 athletes. In January 2022, the Commonwealth Games Qualifier was held in Malaysia. Sri Lanka won by 22 runs against Bangladesh in the final match to qualify for the Commonwealth Games.
